#SoCS I will let go – after retaliating, not before

Let go? You mean just forgive and forget? You mean as in “seventy times seven?” You don’t know me too well, do you? Hit early, hit hard. Kill with the first blow. Get your retaliation in firstLee Child, Killing floor. I love Jack Reacher’s philosophy – retaliate before the first blow comes your way. This is not always possible. I tend to trust people and take them at face value. The realisation that I have been duped always comes as a nasty surprise. But I never stand still for the second blow and I don’t let go.

Yes, I’ve killed before. Not people. Nor pets. Mostly relationships. I don’t mean the romantic kind of relationships – those are bound to fail at some time or another. They come with a self-destructing program after all. Ignore. They are not worth the effort. I’m talking about the so-called friendships that turn around and take a bite out of the seat of your pants when you least expect it.

Those I don’t let go of. Because I know how to nurture a grudge, fondle it, caress it, lick it, take it to bed with me at night, take care of it by day and watch it grow into a thunderbolt. Then I pass it back to its deserving owner.

Be warned.

The prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “let go”. Linda said:  Write about the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the phrase “let go.” Enjoy!

  1. What a hard-hitting and in-your-face description.

Not something one should admit in public? It’s mostly tongue in cheek, though 😂 I very seldom end up in a situation that I cannot just shake off and carry on. But, there have been times that I’ve been pushed beyond my limits 👿

  2. Mag ek jou nooit so kwaad maak nie!! Baie goed geskryf💐

  3. You’re a woman to my heart. Wow. ‘Pats’, as we say in Dutch, meaning something like ‘kaboom’.

  4. Mag ek jou ook nooit so kwaad maak nie.

  5. Jy kan beslis een wees om mee rekening te hou as jy die dag aan een aan jou verkeerde kant staan.

  6. I like the intensity of your post today.

Thank you 🙂 This was written in an intensely frustrating moment. Sometimes I just wish I can afford a holiday in space.
