My vreugdes en frustrasies

A - Z (2018)

#AtoZchallenge (2018) Opinionated sexagenarian’s theme

AtoZ April (2018) Challenge

English (Afrikaans below):

I enrolled to participate in the A to Z April (2018) blog challenge which requires that I write and publish 26 blogs, which represents all 26 letters of the Alphabet, during the month of April. I will be writing the blogs in English and will make the Afrikaans translation available in the same post.

My theme for this challenge is “feelings” of a sexagenarian and the influence of social media. Our generation, especially those of us who grew up in a conservative South African Christian community, never really learned to investigate and discuss our feelings. There were certain emotions that we would certainly never have exposed to public scrutiny, especially if you were a woman. It cannot be disputed that the event of social media has a lot to do with the fact that, these days, all and sundry bounce their feelings around in public. This applies to people of all ages; we’ve all learned to say what we think, or for lack of words, use an emoji to describe how we feel 😀😍😡 I thought it would be interesting to compare the difference between how I learned to deal with my own emotions between then and now.

Afrikaans:

All my entries for the #AtoZchallenge (April 2018) will be published here.

  6. How interesting, dear Hester! I wish you good luck & inspiration!

  9. Social media really has changed things so much hasn’t it. Hope the AtoZ prep is going well. Best of luck for April.

Yes, I started early this year to make sure that I can keep up without exhausting the old grey cells. I see your doing movie monsters – lovely; I will be visiting. All the best.

Oh, that is a FABULOUS theme — I will be checking in daily. (Now I wish my 100 year old patient had a blog. I would totally love to read his too!) I haven’t figured out my theme yet. Maybe Wordplay A-Z….

Wordplay sounds like an excellent idea and I recall, one of your favorite brain exercise games. I started prepping early this year. I’m hosting an Afrikaans challenge on the side and don’t want to put myself under too much pressure. I’ll be watching out for your posts.

nice… wow, you are doing both of those? I am contenting myself with trying Mundane Monday and then I think I will do the A-Z too….

An African guide to the Kama Sutra”. Ek meen te se met so ‘n onderwerp!!

“The feelings of an opinionated sex generator”.

  12. I look forward to your posts.

Thank you, Andrew. It is nothing sexy though … haha, just saying because one male blogger is already referring to my sexagenarian feelings status as “sex generator”. Noooo!! I’m talking about those everyday common feelings.

      • 🙂 You made me laugh, sexy or not I’ll still read. (I’m 50!!! Now not so long to go 😀 )

Hi! Here from the A-Z and glad to be here. Interesting theme idea, Social media makes it easier for all to wear their hearts on their sleeves/screens, sometimes wonder if that is a good thing?

All the very best for a successful and fun challenge.

Hi there, well met. I see you chose Africana. I will be following, of course – everything African is of huge interest to me.

  16. Since I am now 64 years old, I think that your theme might be a very interesting read and I will be following you for the AtoZ. My theme is also going to be personal, but more of an intro to who I am.

This sounds like a lot of fun – by the end of April I should have a twisted tongue as well as a twisted mind. I will drop by to join in the fun.

Great theme – self exploration is so important and I think it’s lovely that you’re going to share it with us all

Thank you for dropping by, Debbie. I always feel a little self-conscious when “real writers” comment in my blog. Best wishes for this year’s challenge.

  19. As a fellow sexagenarian, this sounds like a good topic. I’ll be around to read your posts!

  20. Sounds like an interesting theme.
