Baby steps, one tiny little step at a time, I will learn to live with the reality of old age. That’s what I thought in my younger days.
Now I know – there is nothing easy about this whole process of growing older. The problem is that it all seems to happen so fast; there is no given period for adaptation.
Just yesterday I was still able to thread the sewing machine. Today I can no longer see the eye of the needle. Just one way to deal with this – I need to call my daughter to come and help me.
All of a sudden, it becomes so difficult to bend down and pick up something from the floor. I invent new ways of getting down on all fours to search for the fallen item, only to find that I am not able to get upright again without holding onto the table leg.
Advice from a friend: “How do you get to the bathroom (and you really have to go urgently!), when you wake up one morning and find that, seemingly overnight, your knees had grown too stiff to carry your weight? You crawl. Like a baby.”
All of a sudden it seems easier to just stay down and spend the whole day on the floor. Isn’t that where I started out? Old age may prove to present quite a challenge.
IBMC #09: The Be a Baby Challenge
I am taking part in the Incredible Blogger Marathon Challenge (IBMC). Prakash Hegade is the event organiser. The IBMC is a series of ten diverse tasks, set to prove the versatility of the participants. Read all my responses to this series here.
{For the 9th challenge in this series] –
As a baby everything around is new to them. They slowly learn things by keenly observing how each and everything is done. It’s a pleasure to watch a baby learn new things. They learn that they need to cry to get something. They learn that they need to put forward their hands to reach out for something. Many such slow incremental things accumulate in order.
Now the task is if you were to see something with a fresh new perspective, what would be it? Give a baby step to something and explore this new perception and dimension with your engaging thoughts. You can give a fresh meaning to a new word, sentence, concept or anything weird or meaningful.

Sadly, what you say is so true!

Yes, and it creeps up on us while we are wasting our time on non-important things.

I am simply refusing old age. I do not fear death but I am struggling with aging. Sigh! Not even baby steps for me. I am locking and screaming. Haha.

I know the feeling – some days are worse than others, but Dear, you are still in your prime.

I have to look at the positive… even when I feel the difference in my life. 😃 Much love and hugs. ❤🤗
