IBMC #08 Humpty Dumpty went to the mall and started a brawl

My chosen nursery rhyme for this challenge is Humpty Dumpty, a traditional English nursery rhyme, first published in 1803, about an egg which was apparently smashed to pieces. The rhyme is already 200+ years old and still very popular!

The original
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. [8]
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. [8]
All the King’s horses and all the King’s men [10]
Could not put Humpty together again. [10]

My version
Humpty Dumpty went to the mall. [8]
Humpty Dumpty started a brawl. [8]
All the King’s courts and all the King’s judges. [10]
Got angry with Humpty’s lies and fudges. [10]

Humpty Dumpty walked a fine line. [8]
Humpty Dumpty paid a huge fine. [8]
All the King’s knights and all the King’s spies [10]
Will be watching Humpty until he dies. [10]

I tried to keep to the rhythm of the rhyme by using the same number of syllables [indicated in square brackets] as the original version. I thought at first that my “re-modeled” nursery rhyme turned out a little gruesome, but then I realised that poor Humpty literally went to pieces in the original version. This time,  at least he gets to live a fairly normal lifestyle, right in keeping with present-day standards.

I hope you will like it.

IBMC #08: The Nursery Rhyme Challenge

I am taking part in the Incredible Blogger Marathon Challenge (IBMC). Prakash Hegade is the event organiser. The IBMC is a series of ten diverse tasks, set to prove the versatility of the participants. Read all my responses to this series here.

{For the 8th challenge in this series] – You are going to enjoy this. You will pick a nursery rhyme and make a new interpretation of it. You are free to make edits to that rhyme and then give an interpretation. The only ultimate restriction is that there has to be rhyme and a new context to it. Let your imaginations flow.

Veral as juffrou demonstreer wat aangaan. Hul hou mos van na-aap en dit was die vinnigste hou hul die rympies leer. Demonstreer!

      • Hul leen hul goed daarvoor om so te verander.

  2. You have done a wonderful job!

I do think I like your Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme more than the original. 😃
