IBMC #02 Conversation with a butterfly, frozen in time

Butterfly

My daughter captured this picture of a butterfly sitting on her hand, with the beach and the Indian Ocean in the background. (I am also in the picture, on the far right).

It was a cloudy but hot summer’s day at Elysium Beach on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. We were hunting for shells on the beach when we noticed a few butterflies floating in the shallow water. Most of them have drowned but this one still showed signs of being alive and my daughter carefully lifted it out of the water. After a little while, the butterfly started to open its wings and we realised that it was instinctively trying to sun-dry its waterlogged wings.

My daughter had her camera in her other hand and started taking photos of the butterfly who placidly remained sitting on her hand for quite a while. In this picture, it looks as if the two of them are having a serious conversation. After a few minutes, my daughter left it in a shady spot among the dense bushes lining the beach.

We never found out why the butterflies were in the water in the first place (could they have been thirsty and trying to drink the salt water?), but the brave little butterfly lives on in our memories.

IBMC #02 Freeze a foto challenge

I am taking part in the Incredible Blogger Marathon Challenge (IBMC)Prakash Hegade is the event organiser. The IBMC is a series of ten diverse tasks, set to prove the versatility of the participants. Read all my responses to this series here.

For this (the 2nd) challenge, you will pick up a photograph and describe the memories associated with it. You are welcome to do it on any kind of photograph. It could also be your thoughts on any random photograph. Your post will contain a photograph and a description of it. Add appropriate references if necessary. The length of the description can be wisely decided.

  4. Baie interessant!

  5. Pragtige foto. Die Kodak oomblik in die agtergrong gee diepte!

  6. That’s a splendid picture! Sure looks like having a conversation. 🙂
