My vreugdes en frustrasies

Mtwalume tidal pool at high tide

Thank you all for your commiserating messages and encouragement with our telecommunications problem. Despite our numerous inquiries and ongoing quest to find a solution to this problem, it appears that the only remaining option is to move on. This is such a pity and an unpleasant surprise, as the small little town where we previously lived (just 1,2 kilometer away from where we are now), appears to be the last outpost for data lines. We were not aware of this and on application for transfer of our communication services, we were not advised of this fact. What is even more incomprehensible, is that towns lower down the coast (less than ten minutes drive further) enjoy full telecom services.

Mtwalume is a beautiful coastal village and popular holiday destination, which makes it even more difficult to understand why these services are not available here. You will understand our bitter disappointment when you look at the photos below.

Our new accommodation is on the beachfront and we swim in this tidal pool on a daily basis. The pristine beach is well known for its beautiful shells which I showcased in previous blogs.

Thank you all for your visits. I appreciate all your comments and likes. This coming week we will be walking along the beach (exactly 1,2 kilometers) to “borrow” internet time, in order to catch up with your blogs and Facebook / Twitter. I promise to stop whining and catch up with the discussion 😀

  1. Nou wat op die aarde, Hester? Hoe gaan julle nou maak so sonder opvangs???

  3. Presumably you have checked out satellite possibilities? Other than that, you’ll just have to find a really nice coffee shop/cafe/restaurant place that has WiFi, and become a regular customer! 🙂

Oh Colin, if only! This may be an option in a first world country like Canada, not here though. In the rural areas, many people still have no running water or sanitary facilities, internet service is not a high priority on anybody’s list. We are investigating more satelite options and will keep you posted.

  4. Sjoe my brein werk die hele middag sonder ophou. Hoop julle kry gou ‘n oplossing. Julle het sekerlik al Neotel ook probeer?

  5. Geen internet! Dat is toch ook wat! Maar wel een prachtig uitzicht.

  6. Jis Hesther, ek het jou blog gemis – ek wou die week ‘n blog geskryf het wat sê “where is Hesther and her awesome blog?”
En ek jok nie eers nie x

  7. Looks very nice.

    Enjoy

    Kind regards,

  8. Blog Andrew

Oh no you may have to move on!!! I’d live there just for the trains 🙂 I saw that tidal pool in a previous picture, never seen anything like it.

We are also fascinated by the train that now passes right in front of our balcony! These days it carries freight only and no passengers – we do not have the public transport systems that are available in the UK 😛 Thanks for dropping in.

  9. Ai… ek was ‘n bietjie lank weg hier maar dis nie goed om te hoor not hoe ‘n groot hoop bollie daai Telkom lot vir julle veroorsaak het nie! Kan “wireless” nie werk nie?? Te duur??
