Nature's triptych

Three Rondavels, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Discover Challenge: One, Two, Three!

Nature also appears to favor the creation of its wonders in sets of three. Here are two examples:

Three Rondavels: the three pinnacles of rock rising above the Blyde River Canyon in South Africa’s Mpumalanga’s Province in close proximity to the Kruger National Park. The name is a reference to the beehive shape of the rock formations, which South Africans associate with the traditional dwellings, rondavels, of the indigenous people.

Three Sisters: three distinctively shaped hills situated in the Upper Karoo, Northern Cape Province, South Africa. The Karoo is a semi-desert region with a very low rainfall, cloudless skies, and extremes in temperature.

  1. …. and 3’s go beyond nature:
    The 3 Musketeeers
    The 3 Stooges
    The 3 Wise men
    3 Strikes and you’re out!
    The 3 Tenors
    🙂

🙂 the three Sisters remind me of something! ……….but seriously two amazing photographs.

  6. Love the pics. Mpumalanga is a favorite destination of mine. I’ve been to the Three Rondavels and what an absolute magnificence. I’ve driven past the Karoo only once and didn’t stay so I don’t know about the Three Sisters. I actually thought the Three Rondavels was also called Three Sisters.

They used to be called just that, but you can imagine the confusion with two sets of Sisters. Back way then we actually started referring to the Karoo hills as the Three Nipples (for obvious reasons). 😀 😀

      • Hahaha! That’s so funny. That should have brought lots of tourists. Lol!

Unfortunately there are no other tourist attractions – yet. I understand that they have plans for development there.

        • Ah, that will be fantastic! It’s so far just to go for 1 thing… although the nothingness should be the main reason. 🙂
